JAMIE MARSHALL: I have been able to provide nearly every one of my clients a far more personalised and detailed in-work support programme which is a direct result of the teachings by Graham and Norma. The way I tailor the return to work programmes, the phased introduction to the workplace, the meetings I have with employers regarding clients has all been far more effective and impactful.
NiDMAR – Support in my current role.
My job relates quite closely with what NiDMAR teaches and I have noticed on a regular basis that I can use the course to further my support for clients and employers alike.
In particular, I relayed back to my team Karpmans Dreaded triangle, we, as a team, regularly feel like we need to be the hero and rescue our clients from the dreaded employer, when really, we need to set them up and support them to succeed on their own two feet. Long term this is the best solution and when I relayed this back in the team meeting everyone was able to evaluate their own conduct and realise this was common among us all.
In addition to this, I have been able to provide nearly every one of my clients a far more personalised and detailed in-work support programme which is a direct result of the teachings by Graham and Norma. The way I tailor the return to work programmes, the phased introduction to the workplace, the meetings I have with employers regarding clients has all been far more effective and impactful.
I’ve managed to provide better information about the benefits clients can request, ask more impactful questions to employers such as “tell me about your EAP programme”, “what benefits are on offer” if none then challenging this.
An example is the case of AM. AM has been my client for just over a year and managed to gain employment with the National Museum of Scotland. AM’s health condition meant he was not able to complete all the tasks his job description mentioned. I utilised the Wellness Plan sent by Graham during the course to provide all parties involved a comprehensive understanding of the health barriers along with the adjustments needed, my role in the support process. I attended every review which we had arranged monthly rather than quarterly which was the norm. As part of the in-work support plan we arranged job carving, extra training and opened the eyes of team members working in the museum. AM has been in the role for 6 months now, the team are fully understanding/ supportive and has never been happier.
